Sanctuary, Inc. collected $3,510.55 in grocery items and monetary donations Saturday during Shop & Share for its 24/7 emergency domestic violence shelter.
Shop & Share is a statewide fundraiser in partnership with ZeroV, the First Lady’s office, Girls Scouts of Kentuckiana and Wilderness Road and Kroger stores. The event asks customers at Kroger to shop for what they need and to share items with their regional domestic violence shelter. There are 15 domestic violence shelters across Kentucky.
Locally, staff and volunteers, including three area Girl Scout troops, set up donation stations at Kroger stores in Hopkinsville, Madisonsville and Powderly to connect with shoppers and asked them to donate based on a curated shopping list. The list included non-perishable foods, personal care and hygiene items, baby diapers and wipes, cleaning supplies and monetary donations.
Hundreds of shoppers donated 628 pantry and personal care items to the shelter during the seven-hour event.
Sanctuary, Inc. director Heather Lancaster thanked staff, donors and volunteers for making it one of the shelter’s best events and possibly the biggest Shop & Share in years.
“Everyone played a part no matter how big or small, and we are thankful for you,” Lancaster said. “Your dedication to serving and supporting survivors is unmatched.”
Statewide, Shop & Share 2024 raised $371,893 in monetary and in-kind donations, according to the ZeroV Facebook page.
“Your donations are a great support to survivors as they work to build lives free from abuse,” the post stated. “We cannot thank you enough for your kindness!”
